Nutrition Incentives GusNIP

The Grocer Solutions Center offers hands-on guidance for grocers, GusNIP grantees, and retail technology providers working together to launch nutrition incentive and produce prescription programs.

What Are Nutrition Incentives?

Through the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP), eligible shoppers receive food dollars they can use to include more fruits and vegetables in their diets. Grocers are reimbursed for the incentive values distributed.

  • Nutrition incentive (NI) projects provide shoppers participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or the Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP), with additional spending power for fruits and vegetables.
  • Produce prescriptions (PPR) are issued by healthcare providers to eligible patients whose health conditions could be controlled or improved by eating more fruit and vegetables.

Through nutrition incentive programs, grocers can support their communities, increase produce and overall sales, and build a more loyal customer base.
