Grocer Resource for Nutrition Incentives

What We Do

National Grocers Association Foundation Technical Assistance Center is the grocer resource for nutrition incentives. We provide no-cost technical and program assistance to food retailers and their sponsoring Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) or Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) grant partners. While incentivizing purchases of healthy produce may seem simple, the technology to conduct efficient point-of-sale (POS) transactions, provide accurate reimbursement to retailers, and maintain program accountability is complex. We are here to help.

What the Nutrition Incentive Hub Does

The NGAF TA Center is a proud partner of the Nutrition Incentive Hub whose goal is strengthening access to fruits and vegetables. The Nutrition Incentive Hub is a coalition created by the GusNIP Training, Technical Assistance, Evaluation, and Information Center (NTAE) to provide training, technical assistance, reporting, and evaluation support to GusNIP grantees toward the intended impact of increasing the purchase of fruits and vegetables by nutrition incentive participants.

What are Nutrition Incentives?

Nutrition incentive programs provide extra food dollars to help low-income shoppers buy more healthy fruits and vegetables. The two types of programs we focus on are SNAP incentives and produce prescriptions. SNAP incentives link the extra produce dollars to purchases made with the shopper’s SNAP benefits. Produce prescriptions are issued by healthcare providers to low-income patients whose health conditions could be improved by eating more fruits and vegetables. Retailers are reimbursed by the grant agency for both SNAP incentives and produce prescriptions redeemed by shoppers.
