With the 2020 NGA Show in sunny San Dieo quickly approaching, it’s time to start gearing up for the great events scheduled, including the Creative Choice Awards. The annual contest, presented by Kellogg’s and Unilever, recognizes the best marketing and merchandising programs in the grocery industry. One area in which supermarkets are strong marketers is through social media. Grocers have a strong connection with their community and are in prime position to capitalize on social media to increase sales. Outstanding social media marketing and merchandising campaigns will once again be recognized at the 2020 NGA Show in the Connect with Customers Through Social Media category.
Last year, Akins Fresh Market in Quincy, Washington was honorable mention in the social media category with their Akins Fresh Moments social media campaign. In a series of Facebook videos, the team at Akins Fresh Market sat down with local businesses and interviewed them about what the grocery store means to them. The businesses tell their story and share why Akins Fresh Market is so important to them and the community. This is a great example of how stores can use social media to highlight their already strong presence in the community.
The winner in the social media category was K-VA-T Food Stores with their $100,000 Treasure Hunt promotion for a wide variety of private label brands. During the campaign, customers were encouraged to purchase store brand items for the chance to win a home visit where they could win their share of $100,000 ($100 for each store brand item in their home). The creative on YouTube included animated store brands dancing in cupboards, medicine cabinets, and refrigerators, each a potential cash reward for customers. The campaign included winner recaps and Facebook live events covering the duration of the campaign.
