As Congress takes a break from negotiations on the next federal coronavirus relief package, Members are back home and want to hear from their constituents. This is a great opportunity for your representatives in Washington to tour (virtually or in-person) stores, operations, and facilities in their district and hear from you about the four priorities of independent grocers in the next relief package: protecting independent businesses from frivolous lawsuits, rewarding frontline essential workers, strengthening federal nutrition programs, and fixing unemployment compensation.
With so many public policy issues touching the independent supermarket industry, meeting with your Member of Congress and their staff is the best way to show how federal issues affect your business, employees, and bottom line. A tour of your retail store or distribution center will give your Member of Congress a firsthand look at how you operate and how issues related to labor, health care, and the coronavirus have a very real impact on your day-to-day operations.
NGA will assist with all the logistics for the visit, including contacting your Member’s office and working with you to find a date that works for all stakeholders involved. If you would like to set up a store tour with your Member of Congress, please email Terence Huie, NGA’s PAC and Grassroots Manager, at email@example.com.
