Food safety issues can evolve quickly, making it important for retailers to stay informed and communicate clearly with customers. This resource roundup highlights the latest updates on several foodborne illness outbreaks and recalls impacting products across the country, including Cyclospora linked to leafy greens, Salmonella associated with jalapeños and a recent E. coli recall involving frozen blueberries. Below, NGA members can find key updates, recall information, customer-facing signage and additional food safety resources from NGA and our Official Food Safety Partner, Ecolab.

Cyclospora (lettuce)

Cases of cyclospora are beginning to decrease in Michigan and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is telling people they can resume normal consumption of leafy greens. While this is great news, several smaller cyclospora outbreaks continue around the country so continue to follow good food safety practices like always.

Salmonella (jalapeños)

Do not eat, serve, or sell recalled fresh jalapeños from Sinaloa, Mexico distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. FDA’s investigation is ongoing. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) also issued a public health alert for meat and poultry products containing FDA-regulated jalapeños that may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Taylor Fresh Foods Recall (8/9): Multiple products containing recalled jalapeños. Recalled products were distributed to retail distribution centers in the following states: AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NE, NH, NY, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, VT, WI, WV with a “Best If Used By” date up to and including August 16, 2026. Stores that received recalled products include Hannaford, Kroger, Stop and Shop, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, and Whole Foods.

E. Coli (blueberries)

Publix proactively recalled all lots of GreenWise Organic Frozen Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries due to potential E. coli contamination. The recalled product was shipped to Publix retail stores throughout 8 states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
