Washington, D.C. — The National Grocers Association (NGA), the leading trade association representing independent supermarket operators nationwide, hosted a spirited Congressional Best Bagger Showdown as part of its annual Fly-In for Fair Competition. The event brings independent grocers from across the country to Capitol Hill to advocate for policies that promote a level playing field in the grocery industry.
The showdown featured Sebastian Moretti, the reigning 2025 Best Bagger Champion from Nugget Markets, going head-to-head with Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) in a friendly competition that showcased one of the grocery industry’s most underrated but essential skills — expert bagging.
“Bagging groceries may seem simple, but it’s a hallmark of excellent customer service — and it’s always exciting to celebrate the skill and pride these professionals bring to the role,” said Greg Ferrara, NGA president and CEO. “We’re grateful to Congressman Thompson for joining us in highlighting the value of our industry’s front-line workers.”
