Last Friday, NGA hosted a virtual town hall with Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA-15) sponsored by the association’s Grocers PAC. NGA was pleased to welcome the Congressman for an opportunity to discuss a variety of issues with our members, including the AG CHAIN Act, the nation’s food supply chain, the phase-four coronavirus relief package, and other pressing matters affecting our industry.

Representative Thompson is a champion for our industry on Capitol Hill. His most recent proposal – the bipartisan Coronavirus Heroes in Agribusiness who are Invaluable to the Nation (AG CHAIN) Act – would provide a federal tax holiday and a payroll tax exemption for all frontline employees in the food and agriculture industry. Since his election to the House in 2008, Rep. Thompson has taken a keen interest in federal food assistance programs and has crossed the partisan aisle to co-sponsor several initiatives on the topic. Thompson has also served as Agriculture Committee Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Nutrition.

Rep. Thompson is a life-long resident of Howard Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. Before assuming office, he was chairman of the Centre County Republican Committee and worked as a therapist and nursing home administrator. Thompson’s district is situated in western Pennsylvania – encompassing Warren, McKean, Forest, Venango, Elk, Cameron, Clarion, Jefferson, Armstrong, Clearfield, Indiana, Cambria, Centre, and Butler counties.
