The 2011 edition of the Independent Grocers Financial Survey, has been released and shows a mixed bag for independent grocers. As an independent operator in today's marketplace, you have a challenging job that requires an understanding where your business is succeeding and where you need to improve. Benchmarking against other companies can be a useful tool in evaluating your company. The N.G.A./FMS 2011 Independent Grocers Financial Survey is a financial and operational review of the independent retail grocery industry. The 2011 Independent Grocers Survey is available to N.G.A. members at a cost of $75 and to non-members for $300. You can order a hard copy or .pdf copy by CLICKING HERE. Meat Nutritional Labeling Resources Available

On March 1, 2012 retailers, excluding those covered by a small business exemption, will be required to place nutritional labeling information on packages of ground or chopped meat and poultry products. Additionally, updated signs will be required to be posted for major cuts of meat. N.G.A. has produced and compiled a number of resources to assist retailers in compliance. N.G.A. and Pan-Oston Bring Technology to Independent Grocers via the Utopia Across America Tour

N.G.A. and Pan-Oston are proud to have a fleet of Innovation Centers traveling around the county visiting independent grocers to provide a unique hands-on opportunity to learn about the latest in front-end technology. These Innovation Centers will be making stops at the corporate offices and stores of independent grocers across the United States. In addition to the front-end technology featured in the tour, Pan-Oston is debuting two never-before-offered tools: the Self-Checkout Cost Savings Calculator, which provides independent grocers with a means to evaluate self-checkout cost savings based on their particular operating objectives; and the Front-End Optimizer, an aid to determine the most cost-efficient and productive check out solution based on sales, staffing, wages and customer service.
