About Us

NGA Foundation Scholarships

Through affiliate organizations (WGA and Asparagus Club) in addition to Foundation efforts, NGA’s Research and Education Foundation awards a number of annual scholarships for students planning a career in the grocery industry. Please contact with questions regarding scholarship programs.

The Foundation seeks to position the industry as an employer of choice for college students and is committed to raising an additional $100,000 annually for students planning careers in the independent supermarket sector. Pledge your support to this mission by supporting in the any of the following ways:

Endowments one-time donation of $25,000 to fund an annual recurring $1,000 scholarship

Legacy – multiyear commitment to fund an annual scholarship at an amount designated by the donor

Donor – annual scholarship donation to fund a specific scholarship; the donor specifies the eligibility, amount, recurrence and other details 

Foundation donation – a donation of any amount applied to the general scholarship fund

2017 Thomas K. Zaucha Asparagus Club Recipient


The Thomas K. Zaucha Asparagus Club Scholarship ($2,500 for up to four semesters) was awarded to Chad Villanueva, who works at The Save Mart Companies (FoodMaxx #487) and is pursuing a degree in business management at Fresno Pacific University. The scholarship is given each year to an outstanding applicant pursuing a career with a focus on the independent retailers and wholesaler sector.
