Women Grocers of America (WGA) serves as an information and advisory arm to the National Grocers Association

  • supports and encourages the education of students pursuing a career in the grocery industry through its Mary Macey Scholarship program;
  • supports and recognizes retail/wholesale women in the industry through its annual Woman of the Year award;
  • encourages all segments of the food industry to promote breast cancer awareness and prevention;
  • participates in and supports the programs offered by the National Grocers Association
Membership in WGA is open to any woman affiliated with a retail, wholesale, manufacturing/ service supplier company or state/local association that maintains membership in the National Grocers Association. Mary Macey Scholarship 2010

 
N.G.A. and Women Grocers of America (WGA) are pleased to announce that applications for the WGA college scholarships are being accepted for the next academic year.  There is no better way to ensure a healthy future for the grocery industry than by ensuring a constant stream of talented young people who want to make a career in this fascinating and ever-changing business, particularly in the independent retail and wholesale sector.

The WGA scholarships are one-year awards for $1,000.  Independent retailers and wholesalers, their employees and families, including WGA and N.G.A. members, are eligible to apply.  Applicants must attend a U.S. college or university, have a 2.0 grade point average or better and be entering sophomores or continuing students in good standing in a two-year, bachelor degree-granting institution or graduate program.

To be considered, the completed scholarship application, transcript and other requested material must be postmarked by
June 28, 2010.  Scholarship recipients will be chosen in a lottery from the qualified pool of applicants by the WGA Board of Directors.  Download the Mary Macey Scholarship form HERE (.pdf 25 kb)


  • The WGA Woman of the Year Award
    The WGA Woman of the Year Award is awarded each year at the N.G.A. Annual Convention and was established to recognize an industry retail or wholesale woman who is currently
    • a community-focused citizen committed to serving the needs of her neighbors, associates and customers through involvement in community and civic affairs.
    • active or recently retired from the industry, whose leadership contributes/contributed to the success of her company;
    • a member of the National Grocers Association and other industry organizations whose participation and involvement contributes/contributed to the overall well-being of the grocery industry; and
